How to Remove & Avoid Bad Odor at Home

Sometimes, especially in the gloomy and rainy months of Baguio, we come home to funny smells coming from molds and damp things in the house. It’s a very unwelcome part of any home but, it’s part of home life. The key to keeping that funky or kulob smell away is to know what things can cause them and to stop them from smelling before you smell the tiniest bit of odor. Here are some tips from Good Housekeeping to help your home smelling fresh.

Bathrooms

Bathrooms can easily develop an odor that can slip throughout the whole house. To keep that unpleasant smell under control, to regularly clean out your bathroom. Scrub the toilet clean and get rid of the smell of urine through vinegar or other disinfectants and pay attention to corners and make sure there aren’t any molds. Also, don’t forget to air out your bathrooms to keep it smelling fresh.

Kitchens

In the kitchen, the trash can is a common culprit for smells. The smell of trash can stick to the can so make sure to clean it up after throwing the trash and sprinkle some baking soda on the bottom to absorb odors. Aside from that, your refrigerator and microwave can also develop smells because of all the food. So, for your fridge, you can leave an open box of baking soda in the corner of it to absorb smells. For your microwave, you can wipe it down with vinegar and air it out for a few moments to get the smell off.

Living Room

Sweat, dirt, and dust can easily accumulate on your couch pillows and throws. So, to prevent these things from developing an odor, regularly wash them and make sure to dry them out properly. Your rugs can develop smells after some time too. To get that off, sprinkle baking soda over the rug and let it sit overnight before vacuuming it the next day.

Bedroom

Just like your pillows and throws, your mattress can develop moldy smell overtime too. So, air it out regularly. You can also try sprinkling it with baking soda and letting it sit for a while before you vacuum it. Last but not least, also check your closet for that kulob smell from clothes. Keep the doors slightly open sometimes to air it out. And stick some odor absorbers in there from time to time.
