Mold is a common problem for most homes in Baguio City. With the weather and all, especially in the rainy months, mold has plenty of opportunities to invade homes. When not taken care of immediately, mold can damage your homes and can pose risks to you and your family’s health. It can trigger allergies and a variety of respiratory illness symptoms. That’s why rather than waiting for the first signs of mold to appear in your home, it’s vital to implement preventive measures. Here are ways on how you can prevent mold from invading your home.

Be Conscious Of Indoor Humidity Levels

Where there is moisture, there will always be an opportunity for mold to grow. So, keep an eye on your indoor humidity levels to prevent mold before it even appears. One way you could do this is by the ice cube test. Simply put four ice cubes in a glass of water and leave it there for five minutes. Afterward, inspect if there is condensation on the outside. If there is, the moisture level of the room is high.

Don’t Dry Clothes Inside

As much as possible, don’t dry laundry inside. The water that evaporates from the clothes will hang in the air inside and can lead to mold growth on walls, floors, and ceilings. If you can’t avoid it, especially during the Baguio rainy season, make sure that there is enough air circulation inside to prevent mold from building up.

Increase Air Circulation

One way to control humidity is to keep the air moving in our home. So, whenever the Baguio weather allows it, open the windows and let the fresh air in. If not, open your ceiling fans or standing fans once in a while. Allow as much sunlight in your home as well and regularly open spaces like cabinets and cupboards to some fresh air.

avoid leaks

Fix Leaks

Leak-prone areas are a haven for mold. So, regularly inspect your pipes, appliances, faucets, and taps for leaks and water damage. Repair them immediately to prevent mold from ever appearing in these areas.

Clean Spills Immediately

In the rainy months of Baguio, leaks, floods, and spills are common. So, to prevent molds from following these, clean them up immediately. This includes sopping up any moisture from furniture, carpets, curtains, rugs, and such.
